Last weeks reading class

Last weeks reading class went really well. I introduced a new format that we will be going through together. It is a 60 page curriculum that I got from a fellow missionary. She is using it on her station and is seeing the benefits from it. Right now I am going over the sounds of the letters and giving them a picture to help them remember the sound and what the letter looks like. Some of these girls have been in school for a few years now but they have been left behind. So I am hoping this will help them catch up so they don't get discouraged and quit. One girl that came, Nkiu (3rd from left), does not got to school. A lot of times in a family one girl will go to school and one girl will stay home to take care of things. Nkiu has to stay home and watch the younger children, get fire wood and help with cooking and cleaning. I was so happy she came and I found so much joy when I saw her face after I helped her write her name! She was so intent and serious as we reviewed the letters together and she even tried to say them by herself. I pray she will be able continue to come each week and begin to read on her own over the next few months.
Today we will meet again and I will go over the vowel sounds with them. Please pray for them that they will be able to retain what they learn.
